Thomas Jeffrey Hanks (born July 9, 1956 – ) is an American actor and director. Hanks is known for his comedic and dramatic roles in films.

Tom Hanks was born on July 9, 1956, in Concord, California.

He made his debut at the 1977 Great Lakes Shakespeare Festival, later moved to New York, then starred in the TV series (Bosom Buddies), but became even more famous when he starred in the Ron Howard movie (Splash).

Tom Hanks has achieved stardom in many acclaimed and popular films such as (Forrest Gump, Big, and Cast Away).

Beginnings :

Actor Thomas Jeffrey Hanks was born on July 9, 1956, in Concord, California, and grew up alongside his older brother and brother with their father, a chef named Amos. This family moved frequently and finally settled in Oakland, California, where Hanks attended high school.

After graduating in 1974, he attended Junior College in Hayward, California. Deciding to act after watching The Iceman coming, he transferred to the theater program at the University of California at Sacramento for the next three years; Hanks spent his summers acting in various Shakespearean plays and his winters working behind the scenes at the Social Theater in Sacramento.

He won the Cleveland Critics Circle Award for Best Actor in 1978 for his performance as Proteus in Gentlemen of Verona.

By 1980, Hanks had dropped out of college and after his third season at the Great Lakes Festival moved to New York City, he later landed a small role in He Know Your alone that same year that was highlighted by Discovery Show. Talent for ABC.

Tom Hanks starred in "Splash" with Daryl Hannah, the movie became the hit of the season and Hanks became a famous face.

personal life:

Hanks first married actress and producer Samantha Lewis while he was in college in 1978, and they had two sons, Colin and Elizabeth before they divorced in 1987.

In 1988 he married actress Rita Wilson during their joint venture (Volunteers). Hanks and Wilson have two sons, Chester and Truman.

Hanks recently discovered he had a health challenge in 2013: type 2 diabetes.

Hanks gained 30 pounds of weight for his role in "A League of Their Own" with the help of an ice cream shop next door.

Asteroid 12818 was named after him when it was discovered in 1995.

He is the second actor to win an Academy Award for Best Actor two years in a row.

Tom Hanks finally found the starring role with director Penny Marshall in (Big), his performance won him all the critics and earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor and Volcanotopthe spot at the Box Office.

Hans re-teamed with Steven Spielberg in 2004 on the drama (The Terminal) and starred in the family movie (The polar Express).


Tom Hanks starred in (The Davinci code) 2006, based on the best-selling novel by Dan Brown and co-starring Audrey Tautou.


Hanks appeared during the 2007 Christmas season with the title role in the movie (Charlie Wilson's War), and his performance earned him a Golden Globe nomination, then he appeared in 2009 in the movie (Angel and Demons), the sequel to (The Davinci code).


Hanks continued to perform new voice work in the popular television series (The Pacific) 2010 and (Toy Story 3).


He later starred in many films such as (Extremely Cloud), (Incredibly Close) 2011, and (Cloud Atlas) 2012, and in 2013 after working on the giant screen he played a role on Broadway in (Lucky Gay) and Hanks earned a nomination for the (Tony) Award for Best Performance by the main actor.


In the same year, he was the focus of attention on the silver screen, this time in the marine movie (Captain Phillips), and he also played the role of (Walt Disney) in the movie (Saving Mr.Banks) 2013, and Hanks also played the role of a lawyer in the cold war movie (Bridge of spies).


In November 2016, Hanks received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Obama for his signature performance in art.
